The Veggie Edit

I stopped eating meat when I was around 13, but over the years I’ve got into some really bad habits. My family aren’t vegetarian so I didn’t learn to cook vegetarian meals from anyone and instead I’ve pretty much just substituted meat from ‘normal’ meals with Linda McCartney sausages, potato and lots of dairy.

It’s had a negative impact on my weight, skin and general eating habits but over the past year I’ve made lots of improvements and began cooking more. In recent months I’ve started cooking vegetarian meals from scratch and have gotten completely obsessed with it, I love learning how to do new things in the kitchen.

I thought it would be good to document my culinary adventures here. The old me would totally have created a new blog for this purpose but sticking to my new -blog- year’s resolution I’m going to ignore the fact this doesn’t fit with my usual content and post it here occasionally *rocks back and forth*.

I have an ever-increasing number of cacti and succulents dotted around the house and garden but am really not green fingered. I attempted to plant some flowers in a border outside our house this year and fried them by covering them in water during the heatwave. Needless to say, I haven’t attempted vegetables yet but my husband -still not used to calling him that- does every year and I’m always happy to help with some quality control.

Part and parcel of being a lazy vegetarian is eating bland food, so over the years I’ve laden everything with chilli, the hotter the better. Whilst I’m branching out more with my cooking, chillies are still one of my favourite ingredients so are always at the top of my request list for A’s vegetable patch.







Our first harvest has been a success, with Jalapeños, banana and bell peppers. We’ve got various hot Thai chillies almost ready too, all of which will be incorporated in our meals this month.

I’m becoming increasingly concerned about where things come from and how they’re made, so I love homegrown ingredients and they really do taste so much better. Next year I think it’s only fair I pitch in and have a go at growing some myself.

Keep an eye out for the occasional recipe around here as I continue to dabble more with cooking and in the meantime if you know of any great chilli recipes let me know!

      I’m not vegetarian any more but I do love growing my own veggies. I don’t eat very much meat at all so it’s something I could potentially go down with in the future. I actually didn’t eat any meat for quite a while but started to when I moved back home. It feels like such an achievement too when you’ve grown your own food!

        I’m really enjoying it! That’s cool, it’s always difficult when at home if your family aren’t vegetarian, I find that as mine aren’t. x

      The produce looks amazing. I’m not a vegetarian and sad to say I really don’t think I ever will be but I really do love eating my vegetables too. The fresher the better and these look amazing 🙂 xoxo

        Totally agree, it’s so annoying when trying to do a shop for a while as stuff isn’t as fresh so this is a great way to get around that.
