1 Year Of Blogging

Today marks 1 year of blogging and I’ve been reflecting about the past year. I’m a perfectionist and pretty private person who overthinks everything. I’ve seen a lot of posts from other bloggers about their goals for the year and they usually involve their stats, maybe going to events or posting regularly but for me, I only had one; To not delete my blog.

I’m nearly 30 and more at peace with my idiosyncrasies than ever before but there’s no denying the way I think can make things like blogging and social media tricky. If I feel like something is outdated, or not as good as it could be I don’t like to have it around. That combined with feeling exposed or being ridiculously critical of myself means I’ve deleted and remade my social accounts more times than I can even remember.

A year later and despite feeling the urge on many occasions, I’ve not deleted my blog. I’ve struggled with seeing it as a progressive thing which I improve over time, wanted to completely start over and lived through the awkward feeling of ‘real life’ people finding it, but as time has passed it’s become a hobby I enjoy too much to part with.

My overactive mind isn’t content though and now my blog is firmly here to stay, my new challenge is trying not to overthink what I’m writing about.

I can’t explain how much it bugs me that I don’t have a niche. It makes me want to delete things overwhelmingly but despite trying I just can’t seem to stay on topic. I like to write about beauty more than any other topic but I’m not a makeup artist or dermatologist, I’m just someone who likes it and to me that isn’t ever going to allow me to take it to the level I want. I’m never going to buy every product in every shade to swatch, I’ll never be a go-to place for beauty information, I just write about the very specific things that I enjoy, along with the rest of the blogging world, which makes me feel bored at times. The only thing which sets us apart is our personalities and unique take on things, which ironically is the very type of content I struggle the most to share.

My resolution for this next blogging year is a simple one, to stop overthinking my blog / IG / social media and to just post whatever I feel like at the time. I’m not going to overthink how a post would fit in with my blog, or worry about not having a niche but instead just enjoy blogging.

If in a year’s time a niche has emerged I’ll go with it, but my goal for 2016 – 2017 is to simply stop worrying about it.

I love that over the course of this year I’ve met so many people, some of who still read my blog. I would be really curious to hear what posts of mine you most enjoy? A x

I wish you many more years of successful blogging! And I agree, if we stop worrying so much about it, then it becomes more joyable and more fun to do it! I used to stress out and feel uncomfortable about everything; photos, content, grammar (my first language is greek) but now I take things as they are, post whatever I have the mood to do and I enjoy it so much! Happy anniversary again 🙂

Thanks Yiota! I’m glad it’s not just me but I think you’re totally right about everything, enjoying it is the most important thing. Thank you x

I agree! I don’t think you should worry yourself so much about having a niche – that’s the beauty of having your own blog you get to share everything you love on your space on the internet. I always find your posts so great to read and your pictures are always so incredible! Well done on getting to this one year milestone, keep up the wonderful work 🙂 xx

congrats on one year! i’ve had my blog for years but i actually have deleted everything and restarted it a couple times now, it’s definitely hard not to be critical sometimes! it would be nice to have a niche but in the end you have to post whatever you’re interested in 🙂

Thanks Danielle! I can understand that. Totally agree 🙂

Can’t believe it’s been a year since you started your blog, congrats 🙂
I feel exactly the same about the whole not having a niche thing. My problem is that I just want to write about everything I like, which is a lot haha!
